Would I lose lean muscle if the calorie deficit is too large or I'm not getting at least 1g protein per lb body weight?

In my experience, it's unlikely for a man or woman to lose muscle as long as you are strength training and enough protein throughout the day, in addition to eating enough calories to meet your nutrient needs.

When you're strength training, your body wants to keep your muscles because you are using them.

In regards to 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight, that's an old bodybuilding rule that is shown to be inaccurate and unnecessary. You certainly can eat more protein, but somewhere around 60-80% of your body weight in grams per day should be plenty.
